How Long Wait to Apply for Peace Corps Again

Greetings and thank you for your interest in the Peace Corps. My name is Jessica Phares is University of Washington's Strategic Peace Corps Recruiter for the 2021-2022 academic year. I did my Peace Corps service in the Health Sector in Madagascar from 2017-2019. You can reach me at pcorps@uw.edu.

Starting on March 28 for Spring Quarter, office hours will be from 10 am-1 pm on Monday in person, or by appointment. Here is the zoom link if you'd like to join virtually for office hours. I am also happy to meet outside of these hours, just send me an email and we can set something up. Office hours are a great time to ask questions about the application process, go over your Peace Corps resume, talk about differences in sectors, or just ask questions in general about what service might be like!

Monday, May 16, office hours will be virtual and not in person.

I also have plenty of resources for you to use to learn more about the Peace Corps. These include recordings of previous application workshops, mock resumes to help you write yours for your application, and handout sheets about topics like the information on different sectors, a step by step guide of applying for the Peace Corps, and the benefits of joining the Peace Corps. Please email me if you'd like to get a copy of any of these resources.

If you're a student and you would like to sign up for emails about events and updates, please fill out this survey. It's also a way for me to reach out to you if you'd prefer to get connected that way.

UPCOMING EVENTS THAT JESSICA WILL BE HOSTING:

Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 3:30-4:30 pm: So You Applied to the Peace Corps?, in-person at 134 Mary Gates Hall at the Career & Internship Lobby

  • This event is for students who applied to the Peace Corps, waiting to hear back from the Peace Corps, or did hear back and are preparing to leave for their service. I am holding space for students to connect with other Huskies to chat about your excitement, frustration, and any other emotions you may be feeling about the Peace Corps application/pre-departure process.

Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 3:30-4:30 pm: Pre-Summer Break Q&A, in-person at 134 Mary Gates Hall at the Career & Internship Lobby

  • Are you just realizing right now that you might want to join the Peace Corp? Maybe you're not sure about what steps to take, or you don't even know what questions you want to ask, you just want to learn more! I'm holding this event because there will not be a Peace Corps recruiter on campus until the start of next fall quarter, and so come ask your questions, maybe get your resume checked out, your motivation statement read, and meet other people who may have similar questions as you. If you plan to apply over the summer, then this event is for you!
