What tin can I exercise with previous possessor Satellite Dish?
Other than crafting a bird bath?
We merely moved to our home over the weekend. I take a very erstwhile satellite receiver I establish in my parents basement and tested it out, no signal. Is the dish completely useless?
There are ii coax cables coming out of the wall (in the living room), I messed around with both only with no results.
On a side note, I bought a cheapo antenna from Manufacturing plant Directly for $ten.00 and got 5 channels out of it. 1 is the "Jesus Channel", oddly it has the strongest bespeak

My house came with a satellite dish likewise. Pretty useless AFAIK.

The dish is never useless. The signal does not come from the dish. It comes from the LNB hooked up to the dish
Sounds like yous need help to align the dish to a service provider. If you're thinking you lot tin can become free Goggle box with a dish, yous're barking up the wrong tree

If it'southward a circular dish it' probably for Bong Telly (fka ExpressVu) although a lot of "testers" used the aforementioned dish for "testing" Dish Network. If the dish is oval and mounted with a slight tilt it's probably for Shaw Straight (fka Star Choice).

I retrieve Shaw Direct has a few clear (not-encrypted) channels on their Anik F1R satellite @ 107.3W

Shaw does but you'll need a previously-activated (though not necessarily "active") Shaw Straight/Star Choice receiver in gild to receive them. My understanding is it has to do with the receiver needing a channel map. Fresh-out-of-the-box receivers don't have the channel map yet.

thanks for the replies and advice guys.
Guess I won't pursue it any further. We should exist receiving our modem today and having Start Communication over on Sat to become u.s.a. hooked upward with unlimited internet. Will simply stream boob tube
